Hi everyone! This is my first time as the official CS190J instructor. I am looking forward to working with you to help students make learning easier and more engaging.

This term, I’m going to be on the other side of the world (11-12 time zones ahead of Santa Barbara), teaching CS 8 and helping with the Data Science initiative. I love getting to know my students, organizing fun social events, and drinking copious amounts of tea (sometimes, doing all of it simultaneously ;-)).

Undergraduate Learning Assistants

Andrew Kraft He/Him

Hi I’m Andrew, a third year CS major and ULA for W21’s cs130b class! I think the mathy side of CS is really cool, so I enjoy things like designing algorithms, machine learning, cryptography etc. To me, one of the best things about CS is taking a theoretical algorithm based in math, and actually implementing it into code so that it works as intended. Outside of class, I like to sing, hike, watch movies, and go to the gym, although since Covid I’ve been kinda slacking on the last one. I’m also a part of the acapella community on campus. Feel free to stop by my office hours if you wanna talk about CS or anything else.

April Sanchez She/her

Hi everyone! I’m April and I’m a 4th year B.S/M.S student in Computer Science. I’ve been a tutor in the CS Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULA) program since Fall 2019 because I love helping students, especially students who are new to programming. Courses I’ve tutored for are CS8, CS16, CS32, CS64, and currently CS190J. When I’m not glued to my computer, I enjoy cooking and exercising. Please feel free to visit my office hours if you need any help, advice, or just want someone to study with :)

Bryan Xu Him/his

Hey hey hey! I’m a third year Computer Science student, and I love helping other people out! If I’m not busy working on a CS project, you can find me playing Smash Ultimate, watching anime, or listening to k-pop. It’s my first time tutoring a course, so I’m looking forward to learning about how this whole process goes! I’m currently trying to learn HTML/CSS, and it’s been a wild ride so far. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to do my job well as a ULA, and I’m always down to talk. Stay groovy y’all :)

Clare Boyle She/her

Hiya! My name Clare and I’m a senior in Computer Science. This is my first time being a ULA and I look forward to helping improve your experience learning the material in CS154. As if I wasn’t on my computer enough, I also enjoy video games and at the moment, am playing through Raft. I’m also obsessed with cats and you might see my cat, Athena, trying to block my view of the computer screen from time to time when she gets extra needy. If you need any help, just want to chat, or meet one of my cats, feel free to come to my office hours Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM. =^_^=

Ellen Burrell She/her

Hello everyone my name is Ellen Burrell and I am a sophomore Political Science Major. I’m hoping to double major in Data Science and use data analysis to shape public policy. I am currently a Research assistant for the Environmental and Energy Transitions (ENVENT) Lab here at UCSB. I research environmental violence in Indonesia and Peru. In my free time I enjoy being outside, riding my bike, backpacking, and cooking with my friends.

Evelyn Yang She/her

Hi everyone! I’m Evelyn, a third-year Computer Science major and I’m super excited to be tutoring for CS8 this quarter! This is my first time tutoring for a CS course, so I’m a little nervous, but excited to get to know everyone. Although I haven’t taken CS8, the introduction to computer science course I took was what initially got me interested in CS, and I hope to help you all discover a similar passion for computer science through this course! In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing the guitar, and avoiding the outdoors as much as possible :) Looking forward to meeting everyone!!
